Spiders!

Today we learned all about spiders with the substitute teacher!  We learned the difference between fiction and non-fiction.  Fiction means it is a pretend story while non-fiction is real.  We read a fiction story called Aaaarrgghh! Spider!  It was a silly story about a spider that wanted to be a pet.

Then we read a non-fiction story called Super Spiders.  We learned all sorts of neat facts about spiders, such as they were alive during the time of the dinosaurs and they don't have noses or ears!  The book also helped us learn the difference between a spider and an insect.  Spiders have 2 body parts while insects have 3.  Spiders have 8 legs while insects have 6.  We sorted pictures of different bugs by whether they were a spider or an insect.

We also visited centers again.  Some children made spiderweb names and went on a spider scavenger hunt.  Others made spider Ss alphabet book pages and found letters for their letter webs.  The third group read a letter Ss book and played spiderweb letter and number bingo.

We also played.

We made a special spider snack today!  The snack helped us remember that a spider has 2 body parts and 8 legs!  We used 2 ritz crackers for the body parts and counted out 8 pretzel stick legs!  Yum!

During closing circle, we shared our letter Ss mystery bags!  There were all sorts of items that began with the letter Ss!  We love sharing our mystery bags!

Then we went outside to play.  In the afternoon, our recess got cut a little short.  While we were playing, it began raining hard so we had to come in.  Miss McCabe got to come into the classroom and play a spider shape game with everyone!  It was a lot of fun!  We had to try to figure out which shape the spider was hiding under.

The substitute teacher will be back tomorrow while I continue to finish up the assessments.  It will be nice to be finished and back in the classroom again after tomorrow!

Have a great evening! :)
