Fire Drill

Today we continued to learn about fire safety.  We reviewed some of the fire safety rules we had learned yesterday.  Then we discussed fire drill procedures at school while reading some stories about fire drills.

Surprise!  In the morning the fire bell rang just as we finished talking about fire drills at school and where our meeting place is.  We practiced doing a fire drill.  Everyone did a great job!

Then we practiced how to stop, drop, and roll if our clothes catch on fire.  Miss McCabe had felt flames.  When she put one on us, we had to stop, drop, and roll around until we put out the flame (until the felt flame came off)!  It was fun!  We also practiced crawling under "smoke" (a blanket).

We also visited the last center in our rotation for the week.  Children either played a dalmation letter game, a fire truck board game, or made a rhyming firefighter booklet.

We also played!

Today we began to work on making our own firefighter hats!

Some of us also shared our letter Ff mystery bags.  There were all sorts of items - frogs, flashlights, fish, and fire trucks to name a few!

We spent some time comparing sets.  Some time was spent discussing that even if two objects in a set are bigger than two smaller objects in a set, they are still the same number.  Two is two!  We also worked on using words, such as least, most, more than, less than, and same as when comparing sets of items of different quantities.

Today we also played a "What's Missing? Firefighter" game.  We learned some new vocabulary words, such as nozzle and helmet.

Of course, the children insisted that we revisit the story Fire Truck! from yesterday!  We also learned the song "Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Fire Truck" and had fun pretending to drive the fire truck, climb the ladder, and spray the water from the hose!  In the morning, we also did the feather song.

We are very excited for the visit from the firefighters tomorrow!

Remember that tomorrow is also book check-out.  Have a great evening!
