Happy Monday! Today was the introduction of the letter Hh. We met our alphafriend Hattie Horse. We searched for the letter h in our ABC book and read a silly story about a hippopotamus that hid from his mom in all different places, such as the hay, by the hog, in the honeysuckle, and by a hive.
We also practiced making the /h/ sound while tracing over hairy h!
House starts with the letter Hh! We reviewed colors while playing a game called "Little Mouse, Little Mouse." It was fun trying to figure out what color house the mouse was hiding behind!
Today we visited two centers since we are hoping that the weather will cooperate for our walk in the woods on Wednesday! At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, we read an alphabet story and then made our own letter house! We had to hunt for the letters that belonged in our house. It was tricky to try to identify all the letters we found!
At the second center, we glued houses on our letter Hh for our alphabet books. Then we went on a house hunt with our clipboards around the classroom. This activity was similar to the spider scavenger hunt last week, except the house hunt focused on shapes, letters, and colors. We LOVE using the clipboards to hunt for items around the classroom! Several children also wanted to continue to do it during playtime!
At Miss McCabe's center, we practiced counting objects with one-to-one correspondence. Each child was given a haunted house counting mat and a "secret" number. They needed to count the correct number of objects onto their house.
Of course, we also had time to practice our social skills while playing!
We also began to work on making shape houses.
There was a birthday celebration in the morning!
We also learned the nursery rhyme "There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" and will practice this nursery rhyme for the next few weeks.
Have a great evening!
