Pumpkins

Today there was a substitute teacher in the classroom.  Everyone did a great job of using their good manners and listening to the new teacher!  I am so proud of my 4K students! :)

The children continued to review the life cycle of a pumpkin today while reading It's Pumpkin Time! with the substitute teacher.  They also brainstormed a list of words that start with the letter Pp.

We also visited one of the centers from yesterday - pumpkin name writing, making a shapely pumpkin, or making a pumpkin life cycle booklet.  Upon completion of their center, children were able to play in the classroom.

Some children continued to work on making their pumpkin Pp's for the alphabet book.  Others enjoyed painting at the easel.

Then came the exciting part of the day - a garden tasting in the cafeteria!  We learned all sorts of neat things, like how potatoes grow under the ground and how vegetables can be prepared in different ways.  We were brave and tried some new foods.  Some of us even discovered that we liked the new foods!  There was soup, zucchini bread, dried tomatoes, squash, kohlrabi, beets, broccoli, potatoes, and so much more!  Yum!

We worked on patterning pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns today.  Patterning begins with the letter Pp too!  Then we read the story Dinofours: It's Pumpkin Day! on the carpet.

The substitute teacher ran out of time to practice counting pumpkin seeds.  However, your child got to bring home some pretend pumpkins and pumpkin seeds that you can use to practice counting with at home!  Feel free to also try counting real pumpkin seeds if you have some available at home!

The substitute teacher will be back again tomorrow while I continue pulling children one-on-one for some pre-literacy assessments.

Have a great evening! :)
