Falling Leaves

Today we continued to talk about fall leaves!  We spent some time reviewing the letter Ll, the sound it makes, and listing many different words that start with the letter Ll.  We also sang our new hello song together.  The story that we read today was The Leaves Are Falling One by One.  This was a great book to help us work on counting.  We were also excited to listen for all of the rhyming words in the book!  There was a different rhyme to go along with each number!

We also sang a falling leaf color song.  Everyone loves dancing in the middle when their leaf color is named!  We also practiced making rhymes with color words, such as green and bean, bed and red, and brown and clown.  Rhyming is so much fun!

Today some of us got to share our "show-n-tell" or letter mystery bags!  Each child will get a turn in a rotation this month!  I split it up because it is so hard for children of this age to sit for such a long period of time to listen to everyone share!  When your child gets a brown paper bag in his/her folder, then it will be your child's turn to fill the mystery bag and bring it back to school!  When it is your child's turn, he/she will get to sit in the teacher chair and give clues about what is in the bag.  The other children have to listen to the clues and raise their hands when they think they know what it is.  The person in the teacher's chair is in charge of calling on children and answering their questions.  It is a great activity for speaking in front of others, using descriptive words, and learning how to ask questions, such as "Is it big, medium or small?" or "What color is it?"

Today's mystery bag items had a common theme - they all began with the letter Ll!  There were all sorts of items, such as lions, legos, Lightning McQueen, a letter, lambs, lights, a loader, ladders, and so much more!  Everyone is eagerly waiting for their turn to get the "mystery bag."

We also visited the final center we had left from earlier this week - either the leaf number game, leaf color booklet, making the letter Ll leaf rubbings, or sorting leaves.

Of course we also played!  Time to play is so important for developing those social skills!  It warms my heart to see several children in both sessions playing school and helping each other learn their numbers, letters, and other skills through play (on their own without prompting)!

Our guest reader from Altrusa came this morning.  The person who was supposed to come in the afternoon session had to cancel so we are working on hopefully rescheduling so she can still come this month.  The guest reader read the story The Best Mouse Cookie.  Everyone in the morning got a copy of the book to keep at home!

Tomorrow we will spend some time exploring apples!  Remember that tomorrow is book check-out!  Please make sure your child returns his/her book so that another book can be chosen.  Have a great evening!
