Today we spent some time reviewing shapes and letters. Since we now know some letters and letter sounds, we are beginning to listen for the sounds we hear at the beginning of words. While writing our daily message, we are beginning to learn about concepts of print, such as which direction we write in, that a word is made up of letters put together, spaces are needed between words, and end punctuation! In today's message, we clapped each word. If we only clapped once while saying it, we drew a short line. If we clapped more than once, then we drew a long line. Then we wrote our words on the line. Since we were excited about sharing mystery bags, we ended with an exclamation mark! We also hunted for the letter s in our message and found two of them!
Next week we will begin applying our knowledge of print to begin trying to write some of our own messages beginning with drawing a picture. Pictures can tell stories too! Then we will begin to add some of the letters that we hear when we stretch out our words.
Today's story was The House That Jack Built. It was a little silly and everyone enjoyed helping to read the story! We also liked listening for the rhyming words in the story! Then we read another story called Jack's House. In this story, we learned about the different steps in building a house! We learned about excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks, and so much more! Do you know what a blueprint is? We learned what it is and thought it may be fun to draw blueprints in the block area at playtime to plan out what we want to build!
Then we visited centers. One group made letter houses, another played a haunted house counting game, and the third group made their Hh alphabet book page and went on a house hunt.
We worked on our social skills while playing in the classroom too.
Some children continued to work on their shape houses.
We ate a delicious snack and enjoyed looking at books afterwards.
Then we shared our mystery bags! There were a lot of great h items, such as hammers, horses, hats, and hearts.
In the afternoon, we also had time to play a house rhyming game. We had to sort the tiles into their rhyming houses. It was a lot of fun!
Then we played outside.
Please remember to send your child to school with WARM clothes! We still are hoping to go on our walk in the woods! It would be a good idea to send hats and mittens tomorrow! Your child should wear tennis shoes for the walk in the woods.
Since we already had our costume day, your child is welcome to wear orange and black to school in honor of Halloween.
Have a fantastic evening!
