Fire Truck!

Today was a rainy day, but we didn't let that stop us from having fun in our classroom!  We started off our day by reviewing the letters Ll and Ff.  Everyone enjoyed making a list of all the Ff words they could come up with and watching Miss McCabe draw pictures to go along with the words!

We read a fun story/song called Fire Truck! and talked about how sometimes firefighters may eat, sleep, and even shower at the fire station because they need to be nearby in case of a fire!  You can listen to the story/song by clicking below!  Warning: The refrain is kind of catchy and may be stuck in your head for awhile!

Then we visited one of the centers that was introduced yesterday - the fire truck board game, dalmation roll a letter game, or the firefighter rhyming booklet.

Then we played.  The Fire Station was still very popular!  We have been working very hard at play time with practicing using our words with our friends when we don't like something they do or if they aren't following a classroom rule!

We also continued to work on our fingerpainting project with mixing red and yellow paint together to make orange flames.  Some children discovered that they could draw pictures and write their names in the paint!  It was fun to also paint our hands for a special "thank you" card we are working on for the firefighters who are coming to visit us at school on Thursday!

Then we read a story called Firehouse! and saw all the different jobs a firefighter has.  Did you know firefighters have jobs to do at the Fire Station too?  We learned that they have chores too, such as washing the fire trucks!

We discussed some fire safety rules and learned a song to help us remember the rules!  The song taught us that if there is a fire, we should get out and stay out.  We discussed that we should not stop to get our pets or favorite toys.  If there is a fire, it is the job of the firefighters to help get out our pets and anyone who is not able to get out alone.

We also talked about calling 9-1-1.  It was discussed that we only call that number if there is an emergency (a fire or someone is hurt badly) and why it would not be a good idea to call that number if we really don't need help.

The song taught us how to crawl under smoke and stop, drop, and roll if our clothes catch on fire.  We will practice this some tomorrow!

We also talked about finding a meeting place.  Your child may come home tonight and ask you where their meeting place is in case of fire.  We spoke about how having a meeting place helps us to know everyone got out safely.  At school, we have a special meeting place for our class.  See if your child can tell you what it is!

Today we also found time to do the song "Take a Feather" again!

Unfortunately we were unable to take our walk in the forest today due to the rain.  We have it rescheduled for next week Thursday and are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will be better!

Have a great evening!
