Today we read a special story called Lucy's Picture. In the story, Lucy decides to make a collage for her grandpa. While making her collage, she collects all different materials to use. At the end of the story, we discover that her grandpa is blind. He had to use his hands to "see" the picture.
We practiced using our hands to "see" objects too! Miss McCabe had a special touch bag. Everyone got a turn to reach into the bag and try to guess what the item was by using just our sense of touch. It was tricky! There were all sorts of items and we were excited to realize that they all started with the letter Tt - tiger, telephone, turkey, teapot, tablecloth, and table to name a few of the items.
Then we made our own touch pictures using a variety of different materials just like Lucy did in the story! We used sandpaper to make tree trunks that felt rough, Easter grass for the tree tops, cellophane to make a shiny pond, cottonballs for the clouds, feathers for birds, and floral fabric for a garden of flowers. It was so much fun to touch all the items on our papers with our eyes closed! When your child brings his/her touch picture home, try to see if you can figure out what everything is with your eyes closed! Then ask your child to using describing words to describe the texture of each item, such as smooth, rough, soft, hard, etc.
We also played in the classroom. Playtime was a little shorter in the morning due to vision and hearing screening.
In the afternoon, we had a surprise visitor that showed up unexpectedly! She read us a silly story! Thank you for your special visit! The children enjoyed it! :)
After snack, we looked at "I Spy" books.
We also shared our mystery bags. There were all sorts of items that began with the letter Tt!
In the afternoon, we also spent some time talking about gentle touches with our hands and that hands are not for hitting since we did not get to that yesterday.
Then we practiced our holiday songs in Ms. Mader's classroom before heading outside!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at parent/teacher conferences either tonight or tomorrow morning!
Have a fantastic weekend!
