Families

Today we spent some time talking about what a family is.  We looked at pictures of different families and talked about how each family is unique and that is what makes us special.  The children were excited when they realized that pets can also be a part of our families!

The story we read today was all about the old woman who lived in a shoe!  We have been learning that nursery rhyme all month.  In the story, the old woman decides to move her family to a new home, but the old woman finds something wrong with every home they move to.  They tried the hat of the cat from "Hey Diddle, Diddle" but that home was too noisy.  Another home they tried was the clock from "Hickory Dickory Dock" but the mice were too scary.  The children enjoyed visiting the characters from other nursery rhymes that they knew!  By the end of the story, the old woman realized that the shoe was the best home for her family!

After reviewing Mat Man, we went to the tables and drew a picture of our family members.  We practiced adding details and body parts to our drawings of people.  Then we had to tell a teacher the names of each of our family members and help write some of the sounds we heard in the sentence: This is my family.

We also identified the members of our families to cut out and put in a shoe, just like the Old Woman!

Then we played and continued to work on developing those important social skills!

After snack, we spent some time sharing our turkeys in disguise!  There were a lot of creative ones!  The children really enjoyed telling about how they made their disguises for their turkeys!
