We also looked at a picture of a park scene and talked about the senses we noticed the people in the picture using. Then we learned a song about our five senses.
During centers, we explored our five senses some more! At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, we painted with scented paint! We had to smell the paint and identify the smell (grape, orange, strawberry, or lemon). Then we had to paint each picture with the correct scented paint. Our room smelled delicious! When your child brings his/her booklet home, you should be able to still smell each picture by scratching it first! We used a scratch 'n' sniff paint.
At Miss McCabe's center, we made a five senses headband to help us remember all of our senses! We glued on our hands, ears, eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Everyone looked silly in their headbands!
The third center began to work on making their letter Tt page for their alphabet books. We completed the first step - coloring coffee filters and spraying them with water. It was neat to watch the colors move as we sprayed! Next week we will finish the project to make turkey Tt's.
There were a lot of new areas to explore during playtime today! In the sensory table, we played with water gel beads. They were wet, squishy, and a little slimy - and a lot of fun!
We also played with scented playdough so we could use our sense of smell!
There was also Mr. Potato Head to play with. We enjoyed making silly faces and making sure he had all five of his senses when we built him!
The dramatic play area was probably the most popular though. It was set up as a pizza parlor! We had fun pretending to be customers, waiters or waitresses, and even dishwashers! It was a lot of fun!
We also began to work on making shakers. First we had to sew together two plates. It was a little tricky. Each child got to choose an item to fill his/her shaker with - noodles, beans, rice, etc. Then we decorated our shakers. After every child has made one, we will use our shakers to play a listening game and to dance with! We can't wait!
As we finished snack, we looked at some "I Spy" books. They are fun because we had to find different objects hidden in the pictures. The children groaned when it was time to put them away.
We spent some time learning about the letter Tt. We met Tiggy Tiger and practiced making the /t/ sound using tiger t. We read a silly story that had a lot of words in it that started with the letter Tt too.
Then we practiced singing some of our holiday songs for the 4K Holiday Program with Ms. Mader's class. Miss McCabe's students are sounding AWESOME! They are working so hard at learning the songs and helping Ms. Mader's students too!
Have a fantastic evening!
