Pajama Day!

Happy Monday!  We had an exciting and busy day in 4K!  Everyone was so excited to wear their pajamas to school!  As much as we were tempted to, we didn't really nap although we enjoyed pretending to at times!

Today journals were introduced during sign-in.  Since many of us now know how to write our names and identify the letters in our names, we needed more of a challenge.  Each day a new table will get to do journals with Miss McCabe.  When we do journals, we are learning to draw pictures with details, that pictures tell stories, and that the letters/words we write tell a story that matches the pictures we draw.  After drawing a picture, Miss McCabe helps each child write about his/her picture.  The children are asked to help write some of the letters that they hear in the words.  Look at some of the great work we did today!

Nighttime n came to school today to help us celebrate pajama day!  We practiced putting n to sleep by making the /n/ sound while tracing over nighttime n.  Then we read some stories about the letter Nn to help us learn about some words that start with Nn.

Our story of the day also had the letter Nn in it - The Napping House.  Napping starts with N!  It was a silly story!

We also learned the song "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed."  Then we compared and contrasted the song to the story.  Some parts were a little different!  We even read a story about ten little monkeys that jumped on the bed!  Check your child's folder for some "Five Little Monkeys" activities you can do together at home to reinforce your child's learning!

Then we visited centers.  At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, we continued to talk about different types of homes.  We played a memory game where we matched each animal to its home.  You can play this game at home too.  The game pieces were attached to the "Here's the Scoop!" newsletter that went home today!  We also sorted different homes by whether they were homes for people or for animals.

At Miss McCabe's center, we made our letter Nn alphabet book page.  Nn is for name!  We had to search for our names to glue on the letter Nn.  Then we used stamps to sort letters by whether or not they belong in our names.  We LOVE using stamps!

The third center got to go play in Ms. Mader's classroom for a little bit.  Then they went on a hunt for the letters in their names around the classroom.

Then we played in the classroom.  The construction zone dramatic play area was quite popular!  So was making number necklaces!  Number and necklace both start with the letter Nn!

Some children also practiced sequencing the letters in their names while making name necklaces!  Name and necklace both start with letter Nn too!

After a delicious snack, we learned the song "Ten in the Bed."  Then we acted out the song.  Everyone pretended the carpet was a bed.  As we sang the song, one child rolled out of the bed until only one was left sleeping.  It was a lot of fun and helped us work on our counting skills!  Each time someone rolled out of the bed, we counted everyone who was left to see how many were in the bed.

We also began to work on learning some holiday songs as a surprise for our families!  In December, we are planning on holding a 4K Holiday Program in the Southern Door auditorium so we can sing some special songs for our families!  The songs are top secret - we will see how long the children can keep them a secret for! :)

Please mark the date on your calendars so that you can join us!  The 4K Holiday Program will be held on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 p.m.  Your child will need to arrive at school by 6:15 p.m. on that night.  More information will be coming home in your child's folder as soon as more details are worked out!

Have a great evening!
