We learned all about what a safari is and read some great books about safaris! We even learned some Swahili along the way! See if your child can remember how to tell you "hello" in Swahili! (Jambo)
Then we were ready to go on a safari adventure of our own!
Miss McCabe led small groups around the school as they searched for a variety of animals. We carried around clipboards and marked the animals that we saw. It involved a lot of counting! Some animals were hidden so well that we had trouble finding them! Other children had very good looking eyes and were able to find all the animals! It was so much fun!
Zookeeper Bob also helped us learn about what a habitat is.
We enjoyed singing along with the story "Walking Through the Jungle." This story introduced a variety of different habitats and some of the animals that live in them, such as a jungle, desert, mountains, the Arctic, the ocean, and a river.
We took some pictures of animals and sorted them into their habitats.
During playtime, several children also chose to go on safari around the classroom to see what animals they could find. Others built zoos in the block area and yet others pretended to be animals at a zoo in the dramatic play area.
We had a special birthday celebration in the afternoon session. The ice cream was delicious!
In the morning session, we even had time to pretend to be animals to the song "Animal Action."
Then it was time to play outside and enjoy the warmer weather!
If you happen to have any paper towel tubes that you would be willing to send in, we could use a few more for a project tomorrow.
Have a great evening!
