Baby Zoo Animals

Today Zookeeper Bob helped the children learn that zoos sometimes have nurseries for baby animals at the zoo.  They listened to a silly story called Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch.  In the story, the parents keep bringing home zoo animal babies instead of a people baby.  It was very silly!

During centers, the children made a baby animals booklet.  They had to listen to clues to guess each animal baby.  On the last page, they had to draw an animal baby.  Then they had to give clues about the baby.  This was trickier than it sounds and involved strong language skills and knowledge about the animal!  Afterwards, the children shared their riddles with each other to see if their friends could figure out their baby animal.

They also played in the classroom while working on developing strong social skills.

After snack, the children played a zoo animal memory game.  They had to match the moms to the babies.  The children also practiced identifying the names of different baby animals, such as owlet, chick, calf, joey, and cub.

Some important reminders for tomorrow:

• Book orders are due.  This will be the last book order for the school year!
• Zoo permission slips and money are due.
• All books from book check-out are due back tomorrow.
• Remember to wear pajamas in the morning session for our class BEAK award!
