Zookeeper Bob helped us learn that no two zebras have stripes in exactly the same place. Zebra stripes are kind of like our fingerprints - each one is unique!
We read a non-fiction and a fiction story about zebras. The non-fiction story helped us learn some neat facts about zebras while the fiction story was a little silly! It was about a lazy zebra that just slept all day. The zookeepers tried all sorts of silly things to wake him up. This story helped us learn some new letter Zz words, such as zucchini, ziti, and zero.
We also took a look at a close-up picture of a zebra. It was neat to see details, such as the whiskers, eyelashes, and hair in its ears.
For our project today, we made stick zebras! We had to do some sewing. Then we decorated and added a mane. Finally, we stuffed our zebras and added a stick.
Of course we had to go to the gym to use our stick zebras! We practiced galloping. See if your child can show you how to gallop, keeping one leg behind the other. It tired us out pretty quickly! Once we knew how to gallop, we played a game. Mrs. DeKeyser and Miss McCabe pretended to be lions and tried to chase the zebras! It was a lot of fun! I think there may be some tired children tonight! I know that Miss McCabe is exhausted! :)
We also played in the classroom to work on developing social skills and imaginative play.
The morning class finally earned their fifth class BEAK award! We made a looooooong list of ideas for a classroom party and then voted. The overall winner was a pajama party. We will plan to hold it next week. I have set a tentative date for our pajama party to be on Thursday, May 9th and will send out a note once it is finalized. I am so proud of the 4K students for their hard work!
Remember to send in a white T-shirt by Monday! We hope to start our T-shirt project right away on Monday so that there will be enough time to complete them before our zoo field trip. They are very time consuming! If there are any parents that would be willing to come into school to help out with the T-shirts, please contact me and I am sure we can make arrangements!
Have a great weekend! :)
