Zany Zoo Animals!

It was nice to be back at school today and see everybody's smiling faces!  I missed everyone!  Unfortunately, I was out of the classroom doing PALS assessments today so there are not any pictures.

Yesterday, the children learned all about tigers.  They worked on strengthening their hand muscles for writing by making torn paper tigers.  The children also went on a tiger hunt!  They had to find tigers hidden around the classroom, count the stripes on the tigers, and record it on their paper.  It was a little tricky!

Today, we read a silly story by Eric Carle called The Mixed-Up Chameleon.  In the story, the chameleon wishes it could be like all the zoo animals it sees.  It begins to change itself to be like the other animals and ended up looking kind of silly.  Finally, the chameleon realizes that it is better just to be itself!

We made zany zoo animals today!  The children created their own silly zoo animal.  Then they had to tell about it in their booklets.  They had to show what it looks like, eats, where it lives, and how it moves.  Then they shared their silly zoo animals with their friends!

They played in the classroom and ate a delicious snack.  Then they learned a little bit about chameleons while listening to the story A Color of His Own.  After reviewing the word camouflage, the children made their own chameleons and chose a place to hide them in the classroom.  Their chameleons had to be decorated to match their surroundings.  Miss McCabe is still working to try to find all the camouflaged chameleons!  There are some that are hidden very well! :)

Tomorrow there will also be a substitute teacher in the classroom while I continue administering the PALS assessment.  Please make sure your child gets to bed at a decent hour so that he/she is well-rested tomorrow!  We will be doing the following sections tomorrow: rhyming, nursery rhymes, and concepts of print.
