Our story today was The Mitten by Jan Brett. We had fun reading this story and discovering how many animals actually fit into the mitten!
We also did a mitten rhyming activity. Each child got a mitten and had to find its rhyming match. We are getting to be such good rhymers!
Today we did centers. Each child will rotate through one center each day. Miss McCabe's center played a hat letter bingo game. Your child will bring home his/her game board after playing so that you can also play together at home while reviewing letters!
The third group colored the characters from the story The Mitten and sewed together their own mitten to put the animals in. See if your child can use the pieces to retell the story to you at home! This group also got to go play in Ms. Mader's classroom for a little bit!
Next we played. The children enjoyed hunting for matching mittens in the sensory table and hanging them on the clothesline! Puzzles were also popular. The afternoon session enjoyed playing a group game of "Ring Around the Rosy" during their free choice time.
After snack, we acted out the story The Mitten! It was a lot of fun! Each child got to pretend to be an animal and crawl into our "mitten." By the end, our mitten was very crowded!
Then we did the counting jar together. Every child will get a turn to bring home the counting jar and fill it up with an item to count. This activity works on number sense and rote counting. First we passed the jar around the carpet and guessed how many items were in the jar. Then we actually counted the items together. It was a lot of fun! In the afternoon, there was a little treat so after we counted, we had to use our problem-solving skills to figure out how to split the treat evenly so everyone got the same amount!
Then we went outside to play!
Remember that tomorrow is pajama day!
Have a great evening! :)
