M is for Mystery

Today we learned what a mystery is!  The story we read was about a mystery - a missing mitten!  In the story, a girl loses her mitten and has to try to solve the problem of what happened to her mitten.  Ask your child where she found the mitten!

We practiced rhyming with colors.  Each child got a mitten and had to listen to the word Miss McCabe said to see if their color mitten rhymed with Miss McCabe's word.

Then we visited centers.  The children visited the final center from earlier in the week that they had not gone to yet - making a mitten counting booklet, playing letter hat bingo, or retelling the story of The Mitten.

Then we played!  The children especially enjoyed putting together some winter clothing puzzles with Mrs. DeKeyser.  They were neat because when put together, they spelled out the name of the clothing that was pictured!

After snack, we read a story about a mitten tree.  In the story, there was an old woman who lived alone.  She remembered when she used to walk her children out to the bus each day.  One day she noticed that a little boy did not have mittens.  She knitted him some and hung them on a tree.  The old woman began to knit mittens for all the children who did not have mittens or who had mismatched ones and hung them on a tree.

We made some mittens today too!  They were a little tricky though because we had to decorate them so that  they matched!  If we drew something on one mitten, we also had to draw it on the other.

We also did the counting jar today.  Everyone LOVES doing the counting jar and can't wait until it is their turn!

Then we played outside.

Tomorrow is wacky dress-up day.  The children are invited to wear wacky clothes or hair.

Book orders are due tomorrow.  Only one order has come in so far!

Have a great evening!
