B is for Bear

Happy Monday!  Today we began to discuss animals that hibernate.  We learned a song that taught us about some animals that hibernate, such as frogs, bats, snakes, and turtles.

We also read a silly story about a bear.  Other animals gathered in his cave while he slept and had a party.  When he finally woke up, he was grumpy and then he began to cry because he missed the party.  The children enjoyed listening for the rhyming words in the story.

On the children's journal day this week at sign-in, they will draw a picture of what they would dream about if they were a bear sleeping all winter.

Today we visited one center and will rotate through them each day.  At Miss McCabe's center, we played a bear hunt letter game.  The children had to try to figure out which letter paw print the bear was hiding under. This game was so popular that several children chose to also play it at playtime!

At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, we played a bear board game.  The children had to roll the die and move the bear the correct number of paw prints.  The end goal was to reach the bear cave so the bears could hibernate.

The third center made bear Bb's for their alphabet books.  Then they played in Ms. Mader's classroom.

It was exciting to discover that there is a bear cave in our classroom!  The children enjoyed reading stories to the teddy bear inside to help him sleep for the winter!  In the sensory table, the children had to dig through cottonball snow to find the bears.  Then they counted and sorted them.

During playtime, some children worked on making a hibernating bear in a cave to display at school.

After snack, we made bear headbands and are saving them to wear on Thursday for our teddy bear day!  The children are excited to bring a teddy bear to school on Thursday!  We could still use some different flavors of teddy grahams for an activity on our teddy bear day Thursday if anyone is interested in donating some to our classroom.

Then we learned all about the letter Bb.  We especially enjoyed making the /b/ sound while tracing over blue b and reading a silly story about a bear that liked to blow bubbles.

To end the day, we did the counting jar before going outside.  The morning class counted rings while the afternoon counted bubble gum.

Remember to send in the hat family projects tomorrow!  We already have quite a few nice ones in!
