Gingerbread Baby

Happy Monday!  Today we began our gingerbread unit!  The children were very excited to hear the story about the gingerbread baby!  In the story, Matti plans to make a gingerbread boy.  He puts it in the oven, but can't resist taking a peak.  He opens the oven early and out jumps a gingerbread baby!  Many people and animals chase the gingerbread baby, but Matti has a great idea how to catch him!  See if your child can tell you!

We also read another story about the Gingerbread Baby!  In the story, he is sad because he doesn't have any friends and Matti is always busy.  The Gingerbread Baby goes into town to find some friends, but doesn't have any luck.  Fortunately, Matti is already working to solve the problem!  Ask your child what Matti did!

Then we made our own gingerbread houses for the Gingerbread Baby to live in like in the story!  We had to sew together the house and decorate it with different types of candy.  The children got creative and added windows, chimneys, doorbells, and so much more!  It was a lot of fun!

We also enjoyed playing.  The gingerbread bakery was quite exciting and the children were careful not to open the oven early!  They also enjoyed playing Candy Land!

We also started a project that required our hands to be painted green!  It tickled a lot!

During snack, Miss McCabe read a silly story about a boy who kept tricking his family.  He made cookies out of clay.  His family thought the cookies were real and took a bite!  Yuck!  Finally, they called the teacher!  She had a plan to get him to stop tricking his family with clay cookies!

The letter Cc was introduced today!  We practiced making the /c/ sound using caterpillar c.  Then we read some stories to help us learn some words that start with letter Cc.

After that, it was time to practice our holiday songs!  Notes will go home tomorrow letting families know what to bring in for the program.  There are also 2 important changes that you need to be aware of:

1.  Please bring your child at 6 p.m. instead of 6:15 p.m. on December 11th.

2.  We will meet in the elementary media center instead of Ms. Jarvela's classroom.  There will be a sign in the cafeteria directing you to the elementary media center.  You can drop off your child there and then head to the auditorium to get good seats!  Our class will be on the right side of the stage when looking at it!

There have been quite a few extra numbers added and we are expecting well over 400 audience members that night.  If anyone would be willing to supply some extra 8 oz. cups or small (6") red or green plates, it would be greatly appreciated!

The children are looking forward to making the dough for our gingerbread cookies tomorrow!  Remember that book orders are due tomorrow!  Only 2 orders have come in so far!

Have a great evening! :)
