Welcome Back!

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break!  It sure sounds like it from what the children told me!  They were so excited to tell me about their adventures over break that we started off our day with journals.  The children illustrated and helped write about something exciting that happened over break.  I heard many stories about Easter baskets that were hidden in silly places, trips out of state, and some special toys that the children received in their Easter baskets!

Unfortunately Miss McCabe is still a little out of her routine and forgot her camera today!  Sorry for the lack of pictures!

Our new nursery rhyme is Humpty Dumpty.  We learned a Humpty Dumpty song and enjoyed finding the rhymes in our new nursery rhyme.

Today we learned a new word - oviparous!  See if your child can tell you what it means (oviparous is a word for animals that hatch from eggs).  We made a list of animals that hatch from eggs.  The children had some great ideas, such as lizards, alligators, a platypus, penguins, snakes, tadpoles, caterpillars, turtles, fish, and so much more!

Our story today was The Golden Egg Book.  It was a silly story about a bunny that found an egg.  He was curious about what was in it.  Could it be a boy, an elephant, or another bunny?  We laughed because we know boys, elephants, and bunnies do not hatch from eggs!  The bunny finally got tired of waiting and fell asleep.  While the bunny was sleeping, a duckling hatched from the egg!  It was a silly story!

We also played a riddle game to figure out which animal was hatching from the egg.  Miss McCabe gave clues to help us figure out which animal was in the egg.

Then we made a Humpty Dumpty and inside we drew an oviparous animal that could have hatched if Humpty had not fallen off of the wall.  The children enjoyed this project and whispered in my ear what animal they would have hatch from Humpty.

Afterwards, the children shared their Humpty Dumpty riddles with the class.  They enjoyed guessing each other's riddles.

Of course we played in the classroom.  The children missed their friends over break and were excited to socialize with one another after being away for so long!

After snack, we learned about our new letter Ee!  We practiced making the short /e/ sound while tracing over elephant e and learned some new Ee words, such as egg, envelope, and elephant.  Miss McCabe held up two signs for the children to read - Enter and Exit.  We talked about what those two words mean.  Then we went on a hunt through the school for Exit signs.  Can you believe that we found more than 20 Exit signs?!  It was a lot of fun!

When we came back to the classroom, our Easter baskets were missing!  We had to hunt around the classroom for them!  Some were hidden in tricky spots!  We were hoping to do some counting and sorting of jellybeans and m&m's, but just ran out of time today.

Our day ended by playing outside!

Please note that the dates on the "Here's the Scoop!" note that went home today had to be altered.  We will be doing book check-out and Humpty Dumpty Puzzle Day on Wednesday, April 3rd.  Then we will go to the sap boil in the school forest on Thursday, April 4th.  Please make sure your child has boots on Thursday!
