Signs of Spring

Happy Monday!  Today we spent some time talking about the signs of spring.  We are beginning to see signs that spring is coming all around us!  Today we made a list of things that may symbolize spring is on the way.

We learned that some of the signs of spring are leaves growing on the trees, green grass, flowers growing, seeing robins, and even rain instead of snow.  Rain is important to help things grow in the spring!

Of course we also had to read some books about spring!

We also practiced identifying lowercase letters while playing a sunshine game.

Then we visited centers.  At Miss McCabe's center, we played a weather beginning sound game.  The children rolled a die with weather pictures on it, such as lightning, rain, a tornado, clouds, wind, and the sun.  Then they identified the picture and its beginning sound.  We marked the corresponding letters on our papers.  See if your child can identify the letters, their sounds, and a word that begins with that letter when they bring their paper home this week!

At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, the children listened to the story It Looked Like Spilt Milk.  Then they made their own "spilt milk" pictures by drizzling white paint on a piece of paper, folding the paper, and then rubbing it.  Then they had to decide what their spilt milk picture looked like and recorded it on a piece of paper.  There were a lot of creative ideas!

The third center was an exciting one!  We were exploring the wind.  The children made wind by blowing on different objects, such as a feather, car, rock, beanbag, and blanket.  Then they recorded whether or not they were able to blow the item across the table.  It was a lot of fun!

Then we played in the classroom.  The children especially enjoyed playing in the water in the sensory table.  There were pipes to connect and build paths, funnels, scoops, and measuring cups.  It was fun pouring the water and seeing how it flowed through the different items!

There was a special birthday celebration in the afternoon session.

Then we learned all about our new letter Uu.  We learned words, such as umpire, unicycle, unicorn, up, underwear, and umbrella.  Then we practiced making the short /u/ sound.

We made umbrella Uu's for our alphabet books.

In the afternoon, we reviewed our predictions about how Little Lumpty got down from the wall.  Then we read the ending of the story to see if our predictions were right.  Ask your child how Little Lumpty got down from the wall.

Book orders are due tomorrow.  I have not received any orders yet.
