Valentine Vv

Happy Monday!  Today was an exciting day for the children!  We began to spend time reading stories and doing valentine activities.  They can't wait for the big party on Thursday!  At sign-in time, we journaled about who/what we love and why.

In the morning session, we had a silly day because we got to go to the auditorium and watch part of the dress rehearsal for the 5th grade musical.  The afternoon session will get to go on Wednesday afternoon.  It was exciting to sit in the audience!

The afternoon session read a valentine counting story.  We talked about how our moms and dads love us, even when we don't always make good choices.  The morning session will listen to this story on Wednesday.

The afternoon session also played a Valentine number squeeze game, similar to the one we played in December.  This time Miss McCabe needed to get trickier and add numbers above 10 because we all are getting so smart!  The morning session will also play this game on Wednesday.

We visited centers, but the morning session did centers a silly way today due to the 5th grade musical.  They played and only visited their center if called by a teacher.  The afternoon session will do silly centers on Wednesday!

At Miss McCabe's center, we made a valentine song booklet to take home and sing to you!

At Mrs. DeKeyser's center, we played heart number hopscotch to work on those tricky numbers.  This was a great game to get out some wiggles!

The last center counted playdough hearts onto number mats before going to Ms. Mader's room to play.

During playtime, several children enjoyed hunting for heart letters in the sensory table.  Some children chose to match upper and lowercase letters while others chose to find letters to spell their names or other words.

In the afternoon session, several children also chose to paint an ocean mural to display for our ocean unit we will begin next week.  This involved using teamwork to decide what items each child was going to paint and what colors they were going to use.  This will be an activity available all week!

We began to pass out valentines that have come in and put them in each child's valentine tote.  The children are excited now that they are filling up and can't wait to open them on Thursday!

After snack, we learned all about our new letter Vv!  We practiced making the /v/ sound while tracing over valentine v and read many books to help us learn new letter v words, such as viper, violin, violets, van, valentine, volleyball, vase, and vest.

Then we made our own valentine Vv's for our alphabet books.

Tomorrow there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom while I attend a meeting.  I will miss everyone but look forward to being back on Wednesday!

Have a great evening! :)
