Today we learned that there are different types of teeth. We looked at some animal teeth and realized that some animals have sharp, pointy teeth while others have flat teeth. Do you know what we discovered? Animals that have flat teeth (zebras, camels, etc.) eat plants and animals with pointy teeth (sharks, crocodiles, etc.) eat meat! We also realized that people have both flat and pointy teeth because people both eat plants (lettuce, carrots, etc.) and meat!
We read a story about a shark. Did you know that sharks lose a lot of teeth and keep growing new ones for their entire lives? We talked about how people only grow one new set of teeth after losing their first set of teeth - and that is why it is important to know how to take good care of them! In the story, the shark was sad because the tooth fairy doesn't visit animals in the ocean. Ask your child if the shark was able to get a visit from the tooth fairy.
In the morning session, a student showed us some teeth x-rays. It was neat to look at!
We visited our final center - the tooth letter beanbag toss, watching a dental health video and completing a shark tooth number journal, or brushing yellow teeth to make them clean and white.
We had some playtime in the classroom too. The children have been truly enjoying playing a pop and win letter bingo game with me each day! It is great that they are enjoying practicing their letters at school during their free choice time! Writing on the dry erase board is also another activity that several students have been choosing to do during this time.
In the morning session, we celebrated a birthday.
After snack, we played a tooth fairy counting game. The children closed their eyes and pretended to sleep. When they woke up, they had to count how many pennies the tooth fairy put under the pillow and circle the corresponding number. This game is one that could easily be played at home and is a skill assessed right at the start of kindergarten.
We also played another tooth fairy game. One child was selected to be the tooth fairy and hold the tooth fairy wand. The tooth fairy closed her eyes and one other child was selected to hold the tooth. Then the tooth fairy had to try to figure out which child had the tooth. This was a tricky, but fun game that the children enjoyed a lot!
Have a great weekend! :)
