Cavity-Causing Germs

Today we continued to learn more about taking care of our teeth.  After reviewing what we learned yesterday, we read a story about the germs one can find in our mouths.  The children remembered back in November when we read a book about those germs that can get on our hands and how handwashing helps to get rid of those germs.  This book was similar, except that we learned that brushing our teeth gets rid of the germs that cause cavities, make our teeth yellow, create bad breath, and so much more.  At the end of the story, we discovered that just brushing our teeth does not get rid of all the germs.  We also have to visit the dentist to get rid of those hard-to-get germs!

We sorted pictures on teeth by beginning sounds.

Then we visited another center - playing a tooth letter beanbag toss game, counting teeth into a shark's mouth after watching a short dental health video, or brushing yellow teeth to make them shiny and white.

We also had playtime and played in a variety of areas today.

After snack, we talked about how we lose teeth and grow new grown-up teeth.  It is important to learn how to take care of our teeth now before we get our grown-up teeth because when we get our grown-up teeth, we don't get any more new teeth and they need to last us the rest of our lives!  We learned that an adult has 32 teeth!  Then we played a game.  Each child took a turn rolling a die and identifying the number.  We counted the corresponding number of marshmallows onto a mouth.  The goal was to get to 32.  Your child will bring home a bag of marshmallows so he/she can play with you at home before eating the marshmallows (if permission is given because they are a "sometimes" food for our teeth).

In the morning, we had a practice fire drill while in the afternoon, we did the counting jar and heard about Brownie's adventures over the weekend.

Tomorrow is an exciting day because we will have our Altrusa visitor and a visit from Midwest Dental!  The children are very excited!

Have a great evening! :)
