Shapes

Happy Thursday!  We have been continuing to work on writing our names and naming the letters in our names while signing in each day.

Today we reviewed different ways to say "hello" while singing the song "Shake a Hand" that we had learned yesterday.

We learned about the differences between a square and a rectangle.  A square has 4 sides that are the same while a rectangle has 2 long sides and 2 short sides.  See if your child can tell you the difference at home!

During circle time, we also reviewed feelings and the other shapes we learned about earlier this week while reading Making Faces with Shapes.

Of course, we had to sing our silly version of "If You're Happy and You Know It."  We love acting out the different emotions!

Everyone was excited to make a special shape mat at school today!  Since we have a special snack mat that we use for eating snack each day, they thought it would be neat to make a shape mat to use for snacks at home!  The snack mats are great for reviewing colors and shapes with your child as he/she eats a snack.  Your child can even write his/her name on the shape mat with a washable marker.  The marker can be erased with a damp cloth.  They will be sent home on Monday after they are laminated!  We are getting to be great at cutting with a scissors!  Miss McCabe tried to trick everyone with their shapes, but the 4K students were too smart!  They are getting good at identifying their shapes! :)

We also had some time to play in the classroom.

There was a special birthday celebration in the morning session.  In the afternoon session, we ate a circle snack today while yesterday we ate a square snack!  Then we enjoyed spending some time looking at books.

Today we also learned the song "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush."  While listening to the song, Miss McCabe showed us different symbols to draw for each verse.  We practiced drawing them together.  This activity helps us to learn the different types of lines we will need to use when learning to write!  It was a little tricky, but it will get easier with practice!

Have a great weekend!
