Friends Learn From One Another

Today we continued to talk about what it means to be a good friend.  We started off our day by singing "Twinkle Friends" and greeting all of our friends at school.

 

Then we read a story about what friends do together, such as play, care for one another, help one another, and share.  We also read a story that helped us realize that friends help us learn new things.  We discussed the new things our friends have already helped us to learn at school!  It was exciting when we realized that books are also our friends because they help us learn new things too!

We sang the alphabet song and practiced identifying the letters in our names.  Then we did an uppercase letter matching activity in the pocket chart.  Each child got a letter and had to find their match in the pocket chart.

During centers we visited the center that we did not go to yet - either the dinosaur counting booklet, Mulberry Bush pre-writing activity, or the mystery name game activities.

 

 

Then we played with the toys and ate a delicious snack.  We are getting so good at counting out our snack each day!  We continued to work on cutting while making shape collages.  In the afternoon, the dress-up clothes were discovered and many children enjoyed dressing up!  Some children also chose to do some of the center activities during playtime because they enjoyed them so much! :)

 

 

 

 

 

After playtime and snack, we reviewed the nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill."  We reviewed what a rhyme is.  See if your child can tell you the rhyming words in "Jack and Jill."

We also continued to review shapes and positional words.  Everyone had fun doing "The Hokey Pokey" and playing "Simon Says."

 

In the afternoon session, everyone cleaned up the toys so quickly that we had time to revisit our friend Pete the Cat!  Miss McCabe passed out a lot of BEAK tickets today for making good choices at school!  Way to go 4K friends!

The morning group finally got to play "Follow the Leader" on the playground while practicing positional words!  We have been trying to do it all week, but time keeps escaping us because we are taking so long cleaning up our toys at clean-up time.

We also had free play time on the playground after practicing our positional words outside!  Now that it is getting cooler outside, it would be of great help if you would work with your child to learn how to independently put on his/her coat to go outside!  When there are several children that need help, it uses up some of the time we could be outside playing.  Practicing now will help when winter comes and we have all the extra winter clothing to also learn how to put on independently!  Thank you for your help in teaching your child how to put on his/her coat independently.
