Friendship

Happy Monday!  Today we began talking about how to be a good friend at school.  We talked about why it is important to share and use nice words with our friends.  First we learned a new "hello" song to sing together called "Twinkle Friends."  We each found a special friend to sing and do the actions with and then got to switch partners so we could sing with new friends.  It was sung to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

We read a neat dinosaur story about some dinosaurs that go to school and are the same age as us!  In the story, there were two dinosaurs (Danielle and Tracy) who were the best of friends.  They did everything together until one day Danielle decided to play something else.  Tracy got mad because she didn't want to share her friend.  She got mad.  By the end of the story, Tracy realized that it is okay to be friends and still want to do different activities.  This story caused a lot of discussion and we realized that it is okay to play with different friends.  We don't always have to play with the same friend.

Today we got to do centers for the first time!  One group worked with Mrs. DeKeyser, one group worked with Miss McCabe, and one group worked independently!  Tomorrow and Wednesday we will rotate until everyone has had a turn to visit all three centers!

The first center we visited was making a friendship counting booklet.  We were excited to use the dinosaur stamps to stamp the correct number of friends on each page in our booklet!

At another center we played a mystery name game!  We had to close our eyes and draw a letter from a container.  If it was a letter in our name, we got to keep it.  If it didn't belong in our name, we had to put it back.  It was hard work to find all of the letters in our names!

We also practiced writing different strokes while singing "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush" together at another center.  This time we got to use special markers that we could erase!  It was a lot of fun!

During play time, the sensory table was especially popular!  It had all different shapes and scissors.  Many of us spent a lot of time just cutting at the sensory table.  Some children chose to glue the shapes they cut onto construction paper to make a shape collage.

We also played in other areas of the classroom.

During snack, some of our friends chose to make patterns on their snack mats!  We were excited to be able to take our shape mats home today too!

Everyone is starting to be able to identify the first letter in their names!  We continued to work on it today and learned "The Alphabet March."  It was fun to march to the music!

We also worked on learning positional words, such as between, over, under, in front, behind, first, last, middle, on, off, etc.  Miss McCabe gave everyone a large shape.  We played "Simon Says" and had to use our good listening ears to put the shape on our heads, under our feet, between our knees, and so much more!  Miss McCabe kept trying to trick everyone!

We played outside too!  In the afternoon, Miss McCabe played "Follow the Leader" with everyone.  We had to go up the ladder, through the tunnel, down the slide, under the slide, in the cave, and so much more!  It was a great way to practice those positional words that we were working on today!  Everyone asked when we can play that game again!

Have a fantastic evening!
