We had a great first day of school! I was happy to see so many smiles today! We spent some time learning routines and procedures for breakfast, lunch, and washing our hands.
During circle time, we learned about a silly way to sit on the carpet called "criss-cross applesauce." Ask your child what it means to sit criss-cross applesauce!
We sang the song "The Wheels on the Bus" together. Then we read a book. We compared the book to the song. There were both some similarities and differences. The bus on the book looked very different from the buses we rode to school! In the book, the people on the bus rode to a special birthday party. This worked perfectly because we had a special birthday celebration in the afternoon session!
Since many of us were excited about riding the school bus for the first time, we made our own school buses today! We were able to use the scissors to cut while making our buses! Miss McCabe taught everyone a special cutting song to sing. We also learned a special song for cutting tricky circles! This project also helped us talk about the square and circle shapes. We worked hard today, but singing and cutting always helps make it fun!
Then it was our favorite part of the day - play time! The blocks and dramatic play areas were the most popular. Some children also enjoyed coloring pictures at the writing center. Since we wore nametags today, there will not be many play pictures as the children's safety is important to me!
We learned how to line-up using a special line on our classroom floor! Then we practice how to follow the friend in front of us and walk quietly outside of our classroom when using the bathrooms and washing our hands.
After a delicious snack, we read a silly story about some animals that rode on the bus! The story helped us learn some new words, such the word "viper" which is a type of snake. We had so much fun making the different animal noises! Our classroom sounded a little bit like a zoo with all of the animal noises we were making! Ask your child what happened when the skunks got on the bus!
We did some songs and dancing. Then it was another favorite part of our day - outside time! We had a great time playing on the playground before going home!
I had a great day and hope that all of my 4K friends did too! Tomorrow will be another fun day! Tomorrow we will get to meet one of my special friends, Pete the Cat!
Have a great evening! :)
