Pond Fun!

Today we continued with our pond unit.  The children enjoyed listening to another Dr. Seuss story - Yertle the Turtle.  In the story, Yertle wanted to rule all that he could see and in the process he was not nice to his turtle friends.  This story allowed for good discussion about being a nice friend to others and not always telling our friends what to do.

We also read two short pond stories that were written by the same author.  The children enjoyed noticing similarities and differences between two books written by the same person.  They especially enjoyed Turtle Splash!, which was a great book for counting backwards (or subtracting 1).

Next it was time to visit our final center - making turtle suncatchers, sorting pond and ocean animals, or hopping like frogs to collect pond animals to count, sort, and graph.

We played.  Most children were very involved with building or making leprechaun traps!  They are determined to protect gold g!

We also had a visit from Altrusa!  The story was about a big, wide-mouthed frog!

We ended the day by playing outside!

Remember to wear green to school tomorrow!

Have a great evening!
