Today we made our letter Yy alphabet book page by gluing yellow yarn onto our Yy's.
During circle time, the children helped tell the story of Little Quack using pond and duck manipulatives on the carpet. We sat criss-cross applesauce to create little nests. Each child had 5 ducks to put in his/her nest. As we listened to the story, we had to move the ducks to the pond. After each page in the story, we counted how many ducks were in the pond and how many ducks were left in the nest. We did a lot of math today!
Then the children helped Miss McCabe with a problem. Miss McCabe had several ducks but only the ducks that had a picture of an object that began with the /d/ sound could go in the pond. The children helped Miss McCabe decide which ducks could go in the pond. We are getting so good at hearing beginning sounds!
Next we visited centers - making a duck booklet, playing duck rhyming memory, or feather painting. In the afternoon, we had to making the rhyming center a little trickier so we changed it from rhyming memory to rhyming go fish. It was trickier having to ask friends for a duck that rhymed!
Afterwards we played. The children have been on a book-making frenzy at play time!
During closing circle, we read a silly book about a fox who tried to trick the mama duck into believing that he was really a duck! The mama duck didn't believe him because he kept licking his lips when he was around her ducklings. She tried to make him do things that ducks do, such as eat bugs, play in the mud, and swim. By the end of the story, the fox did not want to be a duck anymore and left. We laughed a lot during this story!
Then we did some duck songs, such as "Five Little Ducks" and "Little White Duck."
In the morning session, we also did the counting jar. In the afternoon, we shared some of the books we wrote during free play time. Then it was time to go outside and play.
Sorry for the short notice, but I just received an e-mail this afternoon that an older student exchanged her BEAK tickets for a special dress-up day that will be held tomorrow - sparkle day! Help us celebrate this child's great behavior at school by wearing something sparkly to school tomorrow!
Remember to send back the yellow mystery bags tomorrow!
We will also do book check-out tomorrow for those that have returned their books already to make it an easier task for the substitute teacher on Thursday. If you have already read the book, please return it tomorrow. If you return it Thursday, I will leave instructions so book check-out should still occur.
Have a great evening!
