Cat in the Hat

Today the children did an ocean journal during sign-in to review the ocean animals we learned about.  They drew a picture of their favorite ocean animal and helped write the sounds they heard.

We couldn't celebrate Dr. Seuss unless we read The Cat in the Hat!  We also read the sequel - The Cat in the Hat Comes Back.  The children voted on which one they liked best and the majority liked the sequel.

In the morning session, Braeden's mom came into our classroom to read.  She read Horton Hatches  the Egg.  Afterwards, the children all received their very own special egg filled with a special treat!  Thank you for coming into our classroom to read!  We all enjoyed it!

We visited centers - playing rhyming bingo, making a green eggs and ham rhyming project, or making dinosaur Dd's for our alphabet books.

Next we worked on developing our social skills while playing.

In the afternoon session, several children chose to play at the writing center and worked on making books to read to the class.  They enjoy sharing their writing with their friends!

Some more rhyming mystery bags came in today.

We also looked at pictures of two items and had to decide whether or not they rhymed.  The children did a great job with this!

Tomorrow will be the finale of the 4K Dr. Seuss week.  We will have cupcakes, sing "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss, and enjoy some more guest readers.  Tomorrow is also "dress as your favorite book character day."  Children can come to school in simple costumes, but should also bring a book that goes along with their costume.  Please remember to keep costumes simple so that the children can actively participate in all parts of the 4K day, as well as use the bathroom independently.  Children who wear costumes need to come to school already dressed in them.  Thanks for your cooperation!

Have a great evening!
