Green Day!

Today was a CRAZY day in 4K!  We arrived in our classroom to find a mess!  Chairs were upside down, there were trails of green all over, our traps were messed up, and golden g was missing!  There was a note from the leprechaun stating that he took our gold and to please not try to find it.  The children were worried about golden g because they knew we cannot write or read without having all of our letters in the alphabet!

They proceeded to hunt around the room to find golden g.  Along the way they kept finding more and more signs of the tricky leprechauns!

We read a story about a leprechaun who lost his rainbow.  He had to recreate a new rainbow so he could get at his pot of gold.

In the morning, Ava also brought in a St. Patrick's Day story that we enjoyed reading together.  Thank you, Ava!

Then we visited centers.  Today we had to complete several activities before we could go play.  At one center, the children read the story of Little Blue and Little Yellow.  Then they cut out a shamrock and mixed yellow and blue paint to create a new color - green!

At another center, the children worked independently to make a pot of gold rainbow streamer to use later in the day.

Another center worked on making rainbow names.

Yet another center project was to make our letter Gg alphabet book pages by painting with green and gold glitter paint.

The final center was to draw a leprechaun face and plant grass seeds.  We are waiting to see if we can grow leprechaun hair!  We also planted green bean seeds in another cup and are excited to see how tall they will grow!  Both grass and green start with the letter g.  We were too busy playing in the dirt to take any pictures, but we will try to post some as the seeds start to grow! :)

We played, but there are not really many pictures because the children were too busy hunting for golden g during their playtime!

After snack, we learned about what makes a rainbow.  You need two things to make a rainbow (rain and sun).  See if your child can tell you what they are!

Then we danced with our rainbow streamers.

Finally, we visited other rooms to find our golden g.  Guess what?!  There was a leprechaun hiding in Mrs. K.'s hat (AM session) and Ms. Mader's hat (PM session) and it had the golden g in there!  We had to catch Mrs. K./Ms. Mader first and that was a little tricky, but golden g is safe for now!  Hurray!

Then we played outside and even found signs of leprechauns outside!  There was green in the snow!
